1998 Buick Park Avenue Trailer Hitch Installation Instructions

Curt Manufacturing presents a Class II trailer hitch for all models of the 1998 to 2004 Buick Park Avenue, product quantity 12157. The hitch mounts to the rear of the Park Avenue and requires drilling throughout installation. Curt estimates that the installation takes forty five minutes to complete. The ball-mount, pin and clip are sold separately.

1998 Buick Park Avenue Trailer Hitch Installation Instructions

1. Support the Park Avenues exhaust system. Supporting the exhaust system will be achieved through the use of a second particular person to hold it or by positioning a stable object under it.
2. Remove the bolt from the exhaust systems hanger bracket with a torque wrench.
3. Loosen the nuts discovered on the top of bolt strap that attaches to the Buick’s body and bumper.
4. Remove the nut found on the bottom of the bolt strap.
5. Bend the underside of the “T”-formed strap away. The tab may be reduce if needed.
6. Hoist the trailer hitch into place on the Buick’s frame. The holes in the hitch ought to align with current holes on the frame.
7. Drill half–inch holes into the bumper. The holes ought to be the place the bolt strap was previously located. The trailer hitch can be used as a template for the holes.
8. Install nylon washers in between the blocks and bumper.
9. Install the half-inch carriage bolts, nylon washer and spacer into the previously drilled holes.
10. Set up the remaining fasteners. Some holes may have to be enlarged with drilling.
11. Set up two spacers in between the exhaust hanger bracket and frame. The spacers should be sandwiched between the bracket and body, performing as a buffer so the 2 don’t rub on every other.
12. Reattach the exhaust hanger bracket with the M10 bolts provided by Curt.
13. Tighten the bolts and fasteners. The M10 bolts should be tightened to forty two foot-kilos, the half-inch fasteners to seventy five foot-kilos and the seven-sixteenths-inch fasteners to 50 foot-pounds.
